Buying Real Estate is already expensive. First there is the purchase of your home, then we have the lawyer and closing costs. After that, you still have to pay for movers, utility set ups and the list goes on. Of course, this money is all spent before you even unlock the door and start painting and making your new house feel like a home. This is why, when this week I was reading the news, that I was shocked when I read that the Provincial government is looking at adding a new Land Transfer Tax. I had to investigate. Above, I provide some information on what is going on and who is requesting this tax hike (and for once, it is not the Provincial Government!) and most importantly, when this purposed plan will actually be in front of the Ontario Government. Currently we have local real estate boards and the Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA) fighting this tax but I do mention what you can do to assist in stopping this new tax.
